This is a place I’ve wanted to make for a long time. I’m Beta, I’m the Vice Chair of SNAFU Con. I was (am) the main (only) financial backer for the convention and the company which runs it. I’ve lost a lot of time and money into the convention and gained and given something to the geeky community that I hope lives long after I’m no longer a part of it (it will happen some day).
I tend to be a main pusher in the background. I keep wheels turning. In the past I wanted to make this blog an option for all staff members to keep each other updated with how SNAFU stuff was going on and what the progress was, but it didn’t happen for multiple reasons. This year, I decided I was going to do it, no matter what, and made my tech team set it up for me so that I could tell the staff (and the world) what’s going on. There was some protest, but honestly, I’m all about what’s best right now, over what’s best in the long run. That’s not to mean I don’t care about the long run, but if something isn’t happening because we might have to change it next year then just get it done, get it happening, dammit! We’ll change it next year!
I lead by example. Any staffer who’s seen me knows I don’t stop. I slept about 9 hours last year between the day before con and the day after. I’m crazy. I don’t want anyone doing what I do, and I will send people to sleep when they get the 5-mile stare. I am the example to bring up when a staffer complains about how little sleep they got, or how long they’ve been working. Just point at me. Last year I was up for 40 hours before I got my first small nap. I stood behind reg for 12 hours straight without food or breaks because I wanted to get people through. I am crazy and I care.
Seriously, don’t do what I do, but don’t complain, either.
