How We Choose Guests, And Why Some Guests Are Back Every Year

Let me start by saying, I don’t know the entire process of choosing the guests. If you read my last post about the entire guest process, I state that it’s pretty much up to Nathan. I don’t know his process and I don’t care to have much input on it. I do want to make a few points separate from that post, however.

Some guests will be perpetual guests. They are practically extended a life-time invitation. Why? Because we are friends and they are locals (or close enough to locals). They also are super-easy to work with, don’t require a lot of money, can do all sorts of panels with and without the staff, care deeply about this convention, etc. They are practically staff, but . . . aren’t.

That being said, we do allocate a large portion of the guest budget to new guests. We take all names we are given into consideration and take our limited budget to get new guests. In theory we could take all the money we use for the every-year guests and get maybe one slightly larger guest in their place but that would make many people sad including me.

I love our every-year guests. I look forward to seeing them and working with them. Chris comes to programming that I run and that means a lot to me. Warky always makes me laugh. They’re not going away, and, really, them being here does not impact whether or not we get the name you may want. Keep suggesting the people you want and we will do our best.

I really hope you love our guests as much as we do. We love bringing in new people, and we love bringing in our every-year people.
